The body of Anita Sharma, wife of a retired Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Gwalior, was discovered in her residence on Monday night. Police suspect she had been dead for approximately five days.
Anita, 61, lived alone at her home opposite Akashdeep Apartment in City Centre Site No. 1. Her husband had passed away some years earlier. She is survived by two children—son Anish in Pune and daughter Nidhi in Bengaluru.
Neighbours grew concerned after noticing no activity at the house for several days. The domestic help reportedly knocked at the door multiple times without receiving a response. Alarmed by a strong foul smell emanating from the residence, neighbours contacted Anita’s brother, who lives in Gwalior. Upon finding no response, they informed the police.
Officers arrived late Monday and faced difficulty entering the home, as doors were locked from the inside. Using cutters to remove the internal locks, police accessed the house and discovered Anita’s body lying naked near the bathroom on the first floor. Blood was observed coming from her nose and mouth, and a bucket filled with clothes was nearby. Authorities suspect the incident may have occurred as she stepped out of the bathroom.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police are investigating all possibilities, including natural causes and foul play, while collecting statements from family and neighbours.
The discovery has raised concerns about elderly residents living alone, highlighting the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of unusual signs. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious circumstances promptly.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have stated that further details will be shared after the post-mortem and forensic examination are completed.
