Rewa MP Seeks Probe Into IAS Officer Santosh Verma’s Promotion, Alleges Caste Irregularities

The dispute involving IAS officer and AJAX President Santosh Verma intensified on Friday after Rewa MP Janardan Mishra demanded a central inquiry into Verma’s promotion and service record. Verma, currently posted as Deputy Secretary in Madhya Pradesh’s Agriculture Department, has been under scrutiny following a series of controversies and a recent public statement that drew criticism.

In a letter dated November 28 to Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, Mishra raised concerns over Verma’s induction into the IAS and sought disciplinary action. He alleged that Verma, originally from the Scheduled Caste category, obtained selection under the Scheduled Tribe quota, despite a court ruling in 2021 that had reportedly declared his certification and induction invalid.

The MP urged the Centre to review Verma’s promotion in light of past judicial findings and alleged irregularities in his selection process. He further claimed that Verma had faced multiple cases in earlier years, including contempt of court, use of abusive language and obstruction of official work, for which he was purportedly jailed.

Mishra also criticised Verma’s recent remarks, calling them derogatory and contrary to constitutional equality. He argued that such statements undermine the government’s efforts toward social harmony at a time when welfare schemes aim to uplift marginalised communities.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla also condemned the comments. In a post on X, he described Verma’s remarks about “sisters and daughters” as objectionable and socially divisive, saying they erode administrative dignity.

The controversy took a volatile turn when Kshatriya Karni Sena’s National Youth President Okendra Rana issued a violent threat against Verma on Facebook, urging supporters to “run all four tyres” over him if found. Authorities have yet to respond formally to the MP’s letter or the online threat, even as tensions continue to mount around the officer’s conduct and service record.
