Popular bhajan singer Hansraj Raghuvanshi, famous for the song "Mera Bhola Hai Bhandari," has received serious death threats and an extortion demand of Rs 15 lakh from a man claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang.
An FIR has been registered in Mohali's Zirakpur police station against the accused, identified as Rahul Kumar Nagde from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The complaint was filed by the singer's personal security guard, Vijay Kataria, on October 22.
According to the complaint, Nagde first met the singer at a program at the Ujjain Mahakal Temple three years ago. Posing as a devoted fan, he gradually gained the family's trust, even attending Hansraj's wedding in 2023. There, he collected phone numbers of the singer's family and team members.
Exploiting this access, Nagde later began introducing himself as the singer's younger brother. He allegedly started defrauding people, demanding expensive gifts and even money from fans. The situation escalated after the singer unfollowed him on Instagram due to complaints.
In retaliation, Nagde began making death threats via phone and WhatsApp to the singer, his wife, and team members. He specifically claimed association with gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. When his demands for money were refused, he posted defamatory content on social media and threatened to kill the singer.
The police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of public figures. Hansraj Raghuvanshi is a rising star in the devotional music scene, whose work was recently praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
