The wedding of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal, earlier scheduled for November 23 in Sangli, is expected to be rescheduled soon, amid persistence of rumours linking the postponement to a surfaced “flirty” chat involving the musician. Family members, however, have urged the public not to draw conclusions, stressing that the postponement was due to health-related concerns.
Palash’s cousin Neeti Tak posted on Instagram that the couple remains committed to marrying and asked people to “stop spreading rumours.” She said Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana who was hospitalised last week after showing symptoms of a cardiac episodehas been discharged and is recovering. “Smriti and Palash will get married very soon,” she wrote, adding that Palash has been facing a difficult period and should not be judged without facts.
The controversy intensified after screenshots of a chat between Palash and a young woman identified as Mary D’Costa circulated online. In a detailed Instagram post, Mary clarified that the conversation was from April–May 2025 and lasted only a month. She insisted she was not the woman with whom Palash allegedly cheated, adding she had never met him. “I like cricket and admire Smriti Mandhana. I would never hurt another woman,” she wrote, urging people to stop misidentifying her and not use her photographs.
Mary said the attention forced her to make her account private, describing the wave of online hostility as overwhelming. She also stressed that she had already spoken about the chat in July, when “no one noticed.”
Both Palash and Smriti’s families confirmed that the pre-wedding rituals haldi, mehendi and sangeet had been completed before the health scare prompted the postponement.
Doctors treating Srinivas Mandhana said angiography revealed no blockages but advised continuous ECG monitoring and blood pressure checks.
A new wedding date is expected to be announced once the family finalises medical clearances and logistical arrangements.
