Smriti Mandhana Postpones Wedding After Father Falls Ill; Ceremonies Halted in Sangli

India opener Smriti Mandhana has postponed her wedding with music composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal after her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was rushed to hospital following a sudden deterioration in his health. The ceremony was scheduled to take place in Sangli on Thursday.

According to her manager, Tuhin Mishra, the family called an ambulance when her father’s condition worsened. Doctors advised immediate medical attention, prompting the family to put all wedding functions on hold indefinitely. The couple had already completed their Haldi ceremony on November 21, and preparations at the decorated wedding venue were underway when the news emerged.

Mandhana’s pre-wedding celebrations  including the Mehendi and Sangeet ceremonieshad drawn significant attention on social media over the past week. Images from the events showed Mandhana with friends, teammates and family members. Several fellow cricketers, including Jemimah Rodrigues and Priyanka Patil, were seen participating in the Haldi ceremony. A video of Mandhana performing a special dance for Palash during the Sangeet had gone viral shortly before the postponement.

Mandhana and Palash Muchhal first met in 2019 through a mutual friend in Mumbai. After years of keeping their relationship private, the couple made it public in 2024. Muchhal proposed to Mandhana in a surprise gesture at DY Patil Stadium, the venue where she recently lifted the World Cup trophy as vice-captain. He also tattooed “SM18”  her initials and jersey number  on his hand as part of the proposal.

Palash Muchhal, brother of singer Palak Muchhal, is known for composing hits such as “Party Toh Banti Hai” and “Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui.” He entered the industry in 2014 and has built a successful career, with a reported net worth between ₹20 crore and ₹41 crore.

Ahead of the planned wedding, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a congratulatory letter to the couple, extending wishes to both families.

The family has not announced a new date, and the ceremonies will remain paused until Mandhana’s father recovers
