Speeding Bike Accident Sparks Violent Clash in Rewa, CCTV Footage Emerges
Digital Desk
A high-speed motorcycle accident in Rewa late Thursday escalated into a violent clash between two groups, leaving two people injured and prompting a police investigation after CCTV footage of the incident surfaced. The sequence of events — from reckless driving to a retaliatory attack — has raised concerns over road safety and public order in the area.
According to police, the incident occurred near Desi Jayka Restaurant, where Karan Jaiswal and Shubham Jaiswal were riding a Bullet motorcycle at high speed. While crossing the road, the bike allegedly struck Balram Patel, a local resident who was heading out to buy tea. The force of the collision was severe, resulting in a fractured jaw and critical injuries to Patel.
Moments after hitting the pedestrian, the motorcycle reportedly continued forward and collided with an auto-rickshaw a short distance away. Bystanders at the scene stopped the riders and questioned them about the accident. Police said the youths assured locals that they would cover the injured man’s medical expenses. Patel was then admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
However, what initially appeared to be an accident soon took a violent turn. Investigators said the bike riders later called their associates to the spot, allegedly to settle scores over the earlier confrontation with locals. Around 10 to 12 people, armed with iron rods and sticks, returned to the area and launched an attack on the owner of Desi Jayka Restaurant, which is located below the hospital.
The sudden assault caused panic in the vicinity. CCTV footage shows the attackers vandalising parts of the restaurant and chasing the owner, who sustained injuries but managed to flee. The incident was captured on multiple cameras installed nearby, providing clear visuals of both the accident and the subsequent violence.
Police officials confirmed that the CCTV footage is being examined frame by frame to identify all those involved. “The video evidence clearly establishes the sequence of events,” an officer said, adding that cases will be registered under relevant sections once identification is complete.
Authorities said strict action would be taken against those responsible for reckless driving and the violent attack. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of overspeeding and the rapid escalation of disputes into mob violence in urban areas.
The investigation is ongoing.
