Taken jewellery by handing over counterfeit currencies: Near Nadra bus stand in Bhopal

On Tuesday in Bhopal, a case of deception and fraud came in light where swindlers deceived a woman under the pretext of seeking help and ran away with her jewellery, the police said. In return, they handed her a bundle of counterfeit notes. The incident, as per police, took place near Nadra Bus Stand, where the victim had gone to purchase medicines.

Hanumanganj police station in-charge Awadhesh Singh Bhadoria told that the victim, Phoolmati (50), a resident of Ghoda Nikkas in Simolia, had visited a medical store to buy medicine on Monday noon. While she was at the shop, a young man approached her asking for the address of the post office. Soon, another accomplice joined in, and together they engaged the woman in conversation.

The duo told her they needed help depositing a large sum of money at the post office. To gain her trust, they handed her a bag claiming it contained Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. They then convinced her to part with her gold earrings and mangalsutra as a gesture of good faith.mWhen the woman returned to Nadra Bus Stand and opened the packet, she was shocked to find only plain paper instead of cash.

She immediately informed her son, Ankit, who accompanied her to the Hanumanganj police station. Based on her statement, police have registered a case against the accused duo, and are now scanning the CCTV footage from the area to trace the culprits.
