Three Youths Feared Drowned During Picnic at Panna Waterfall
Panna, MP
A leisure trip turned into a tragedy on Sunday afternoon when three young men drowned while bathing at the Brihaspati Kund waterfall in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district. The incident took place around 2 PM in Brijpur police station limits, while the group was enjoying a weekend picnic.
The victims were identified as Abhishek Dheemar (resident of Jigadhaa, Panna), and Krishna Sharma and Twarit Chaudhary (both residents of Barhout, Satna). The three reportedly entered deep waters and failed to resurface, even as their friends watched helplessly from the banks.
Darkness Halts Rescue; Search to Resume Monday
Upon receiving the alert, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and Home Guards rushed to the scene. However, gathering darkness made it impossible to begin rescue operations on Sunday evening.
Platoon Commandant Satyapal Jain, who led the SDRF response, confirmed that the area was inspected and the full-scale search would begin Monday morning.
Eyewitness Account and Response
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were swept into deeper waters while bathing. One of their friends immediately notified authorities. The terrain and remote location added challenges for the responders.
The popular Brihaspati Kund is known for attracting weekend crowds, but it lacks lifeguards or permanent rescue presence, raising concerns about safety arrangements at such natural tourist spots.
