Two young men riding a motorcycle were killed in a horrific road accident in Neemuch on Thursday night after a speeding trailer hit them and dragged the bike for nearly 50 feet before coming to a halt. The impact was so severe that the bodies remained trapped under the heavy vehicle for hours, forcing authorities to deploy three bulldozers to retrieve them after a crane failed.
The accident occurred late Thursday night at Bharbhadia Fante, under the Cantt police station area. According to police, the trailer, loaded with cement clinker and travelling from Nimbahera towards Mandsaur, collided with a motorcycle bearing registration number RJ09 2M 5550. The bikers were travelling from Neemuch towards Jawad.
After hitting the motorcycle, the trailer broke through an iron roadside railing and veered into a nearby field. In the process, it struck multiple electricity poles, damaging an 11,000 KV high-tension line and causing sparks, which led to panic among nearby residents and commuters.
Police officers said the trailer was heavily loaded, making rescue operations extremely difficult. On receiving information, Additional Superintendent of Police Naval Singh Sisodia, City Superintendent of Police Kiran Chauhan, and Cantt police station in-charge Nilesh Awasthi reached the spot along with a large police force. Emergency services, including Dial 112 and a 108 ambulance, were also rushed to the scene.
Initially, a crane was brought in to lift the trailer and recover the bodies, but it failed due to the vehicle’s weight. Authorities then summoned three JCB machines. The rescue teams emptied the cement clinker from the trailer onto the road before attempting to extract the victims trapped beneath the wheels and cabin.
The operation continued for nearly three hours. The first body was recovered around 11:30 pm, while the second was retrieved after 12:30 am. Police said the severity of the crash left both victims with fatal injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Govind, son of Ramchandra Raigar, and Sonu, both residents of Sarwaniya Maharaj village. Their families were informed late at night. The bodies were sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the families on Friday.
The trailer, bearing registration number NL01 AH 0720, has been seized. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, including speed, visibility and possible negligence. Traffic was disrupted for several hours during the rescue operation and was restored after clearance work was completed.
