Two BLOs and a Patwari Suspended in Jabalpur for Lapses in Voter Verification

The District Election Officer (DEO) and Collector Raghavendra Singh on Monday suspended two Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and one Patwari for negligence in duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The action follows repeated non-compliance with instructions and unsatisfactory responses to earlier notices.

According to officials, BLOs Sandeep Nanda and Monu Bharti, along with Patwari Ashutosh Chaturvedi, failed to perform mandatory voter verification work. Nanda, an Assistant Grade-3 posted in the Public Health Engineering Department and assigned to Booth No. 150 in Cantonment Assembly, was found repeatedly absent from field duties. Bharti, a Forest Guard serving as BLO at Booth No. 133 in the North Assembly constituency, was also held responsible for persistent delays. Chaturvedi, posted in Patwari Halka No. 35 of Shahpura tehsil, was suspended for not cooperating with BLOs during verification.

All three officials have been attached to different election offices for the duration of their suspension. Nanda has been reassigned to the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (Cantonment), Bharti to the North Election Office, and Chaturvedi to the District Election Office headquarters.

Alongside the suspensions, the DEO has issued show-cause notices to nine other officials over slow progress in digitising enumeration sheets under the SIR programme. Those served include AERO Janaki Uike and eight BLO supervisors—Pulkit Trivedi, Kailash Urveti, Deepak Jharia, Ankit Vishwakarma, Jai Vishwakarma and Rajkumar Mehra from the Cantonment Assembly, and Surendra Burman and Ashutosh Gautam from Jabalpur West.

Deputy District Election Officer Jyoti Paraste issued the notices, directing all officials to submit written explanations by 12 PM on 19 November. The district administration has warned that disciplinary proceedings will follow if responses are inadequate.

The Election Office has intensified monitoring ahead of the next phase of revision, stressing that delays in verification and digitisation can impact the accuracy of electoral rolls. Officials indicated that further action may be taken if compliance does not improve.
