Two Young Men Found Dead on Roadside in Chhatarpur; Gunshot and Head Injuries Raise Murder Suspicion

The bodies of two young men were found lying on a roadside in Ishanagar area of Chhatarpur district on Monday night, triggering suspicion of a double murder after police recovered a country-made pistol, a mobile phone and motorcycles from the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Surendra Yadav (19) and Santosh Kori (18), both residents of Gahrawar village. Locals spotted the bodies between Panautha and Janakpur around 9 pm and alerted the police. The bodies were found approximately 20 steps apart, indicating that the two may have been attacked separately.

Preliminary examination suggests differing causes of death. One of the youths appears to have suffered a gunshot injury, while the other sustained severe head injuries consistent with being struck by a heavy object, possibly a stone. Both had extensive trauma to the head, strengthening the suspicion of foul play.

A country-made pistol and a mobile phone were found between the two bodies. Police also recovered a Hero Deluxe motorcycle bearing registration number MP 16 S 3388 from the spot. Another motorcycle, also registered in Chhatarpur district, was found nearby. Investigators are examining whether the vehicles were used by the victims or the assailants.

Family members of the deceased alleged that the deaths were not accidental and demanded a thorough investigation. They said the presence of a firearm at the spot clearly points to a planned attack. Relatives also questioned how two teenagers could suffer such injuries without the involvement of others.

Superintendent of Police Agam Jain said that a case has been registered and all angles are being probed. “At this stage, it is too early to draw conclusions. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the medical reports,” he said. He added that the investigation team is working to establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths.

A forensic science team visited the site late at night and collected evidence, including fingerprints and biological samples. The pistol, mobile phone and both motorcycles have been seized and sent for forensic examination. Call detail records of the recovered phone are also being analysed to trace the victims’ last movements and contacts.

Police officials said CCTV footage from nearby routes is being reviewed, and locals are being questioned to identify potential witnesses. Investigators are also examining whether the victims had any prior disputes or criminal background.

The post-mortem examinations were conducted at the district hospital on Tuesday morning. Police said further action will depend on forensic and medical findings, and assured that those responsible would be identified soon.
