Ujjain Hospital Faces Probe After Body Left in Ambulance for Hours

Pamecha Super Speciality Hospital on the Ujjain–Indore Road is under investigation following allegations that it refused to keep a deceased patient’s body inside the premises, leaving it in an ambulance for nearly three hours. The incident has sparked outrage after a video of the confrontation went viral.

The deceased, 41-year-old Ritesh Bhola from Agar Malwa, was admitted to the hospital on Friday with chest pain. Despite medical attention, he passed away after around two hours of admission. According to the family, the hospital immediately asked them to remove the body. Ritesh’s wife, Sheetal Bhola, requested the hospital to allow the body to remain for a few hours as relatives were traveling from Gwalior, but the request was denied.

Local councillor Jitendra ‘Gabbar’ Kuwal visited the hospital after receiving information about the incident. He alleged that the hospital’s conduct was “inhuman” and insisted that the body be allowed inside. The family was eventually able to take the body around 10 pm after relatives arrived. A video shows Councillor Kuwal engaging with hospital management over the matter.

Ritesh’s daughter, Pari Bhola, stated that her father had been suffering from chest pain since the morning and was advised to move from Agar hospital to Pamecha Hospital. She alleged that the hospital pressured the family to remove the body immediately and did not treat them with sensitivity.

In response, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Ashok Patel issued a notice to the hospital director, calling the act “improper, inhuman and insensitive” and highlighting that it violates medical conduct guidelines. The hospital has been asked to submit a clarification within two days, failing which further action will be taken.

The CMHO reiterated that government guidelines mandate that all deceased individuals must be treated with dignity, and incidents violating this principle will be strictly addressed.
