Ujjain Police Launch On-the-Spot Reward System, a First for Madhya Pradesh

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain Police have introduced an on-the-spot reward system aimed at recognising exemplary performance by police personnel without the delays of conventional paperwork. The system, launched by Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma this week, allows officers to receive cash rewards and certificates immediately after notable work.

A dedicated Reward Order Book has been created to document every recognition. Within 48 hours of its rollout, five police personnel from Bhairavgarh and Neelganga police stations received immediate awards during field inspections.

SP Sharma said prompt appreciation was essential for strengthening morale in the force. “If any police personnel perform exceptionally, it is our responsibility to recognise them right away so their morale increases,” he said, emphasising that every entry includes the precise reason for the award. The police department is also using the records to build a database of officers’ specialised skills, enabling quicker deployment during specific types of investigations.

The move marks a departure from the earlier system, where reward recommendations required multiple rounds of clerical processingSP approval, stenographer notes, preparation of note-sheets and circulation. Officials said the procedure often stretched for 10 to 15 days, and in many cases, documents were misplaced or delayed, leaving commendations unrecorded in service files.

Under the new mechanism, SP Sharma directly issues recognition on site. During a surprise inspection at Bhairavgarh police station, SI Mahendra Pal Sendhav received ₹500 and a certificate for noteworthy work in crime detection. Head Constable Mahesh Malviya and Constable Jeevan Katariya were rewarded for action against local goons under bond-over proceedings. In Neelganga, Constables Veer Singh Yadav and Damodar Patel were similarly honoured for catching a knife-wielding suspect during late-night patrols.

Officials say the model will be expanded district-wide and may serve as a template for other districts in Madhya Pradesh looking to streamline internal reward systems.
