Unruly Crowd Disrupts Kailash Kher Concert in Gwalior, Singer Halts Show Midway

A live performance by noted Bollywood singer Kailash Kher descended into chaos late Wednesday night after sections of an unruly crowd breached security barricades and rushed towards the stage, forcing the singer to stop the concert midway at Gwalior’s Mela Maidan.

The incident occurred during Bollywood Night, organised on December 25 as part of Tabla Diwas and Gwalior Gaurav Diwas celebrations. Kailash Kher was performing before a large audience when several attendees jumped barricades and moved aggressively towards the stage, raising serious safety concerns for the artist, crew, and spectators.

As the situation escalated, Kher interrupted his performance and addressed the crowd directly. Expressing visible anger and disappointment, he warned that such conduct would not be tolerated. “I was praising you, but you are behaving like animals. Please don’t do this, or I will not continue the programme,” he said over the microphone, drawing attention to the breakdown in discipline.

Despite the presence of police and private security personnel, the excitement of a section of the crowd eager to dance close to the stage and interact with the singer led to a temporary collapse of crowd control arrangements. When order was not immediately restored, Kher appealed to senior police officials present at the venue to intervene and manage the situation.

After sustained efforts by the police, the crowd was pushed back behind barricades and calm was restored, allowing the programme to resume.

The concert, which began around 7 pm, marked the inauguration of the trade fair and was held with approval from the Culture Department. Before the disruption, Kher had enthralled the audience with popular numbers such as “Jana Jogi De Naal Ve,” “Bam Bam Lahri,” “Teri Deewani,” “Yun Hi Chala Chal Rahi,” and “Allah Ke Bande.”

Officials said no injuries were reported, but the incident has raised questions about crowd management and security preparedness at large public cultural events in the city.
