Vijayvargiya Raises Indore In-Charge Issue at Review Meet; CM Yadav Says Vacant Districts Under His Direct Charge

A routine administrative review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav in Indore on Sunday briefly turned into a pointed exchange after state minister Kailash Vijayvargiya questioned the ambiguity over the district’s in-charge minister, saying officials had invoked the Chief Minister’s name to exert pressure.

During the meeting at the Brilliant Convention Centre, Vijayvargiya referred to the gazette notification that earlier listed Dr Yadav as Indore’s in-charge minister. “It’s good you clarified that you are not in charge of Indore. Because of the notification, officers used your name to intimidate us,” Vijayvargiya said, according to a video clip of the interaction that later surfaced.

Responding to the remark, the Chief Minister said that district responsibilities had already been distributed among ministers and that Indore was currently not assigned to any minister. “Whatever had to be given has been given. What remains is with me,” Yadav said, adding that all vacant districts were under his direct charge. The exchange ended on a light note, drawing smiles and laughter in the hall.

Chief Minister Yadav had recently stated that he was not the minister in charge of Indore, even though the district remains unallocated in the current distribution of responsibilities. Vijayvargiya remarked that in practice, leaders in Indore had always treated the Chief Minister as the district’s in-charge, a comment that the CM acknowledged with a smile.

The meeting also saw Vijayvargiya issue firm instructions to Indore Metro officials. Ahead of the review, he asked Metro Managing Director Srikrishna Chaitanya to present only the already approved underground metro route and refrain from introducing alternative proposals during the Chief Minister’s review. He also asked officials to clearly mention the project cost.

Senior leaders, including minister Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shankar Lalwani and Indore mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, were present at the meeting and subsequent press conference. During the briefing, Vijayvargiya was seen passing written notes to the Chief Minister, underscoring his active involvement in the discussions.

Vijayvargiya’s remarks have once again brought attention to ongoing tensions between elected representatives and administrative officers, particularly over authority and accountability in key districts like Indore.
