Villagers Protest in Mud, Demand Road Amid Rain Woes
Shahdol, MP
Frustrated by the lack of proper roads, villagers staged a unique protest by standing in knee-deep mud. With the onset of rains, walking has become nearly impossible, forcing locals to demand urgent government action for road construction.
The government claims to connect the villages to the main road. But the ground reality is something else. Due to the lack of a paved road in Belhan Tola of Shahdol, people's anger burst out and the villagers came out in protest. Actually, due to rain, the unpaved roads turn into mud. In such a situation, children going to school, taking the sick to the hospital, everything stops.
School is far, hospital is also a dream
The villagers say that many times they have appealed to the government and administration including the public representatives for road construction. Despite this, the road has not been built till date. The poor condition of the road is affecting the children and the sick the most. School students reach school through mud every day. Whereas in emergency, even the ambulance is not able to reach the village. Many times the villagers have to bring the sick to the main road by loading them on a cot or trolley.
Appeal to public representatives, but disappointment so far
The villagers say that they have appealed to the MP, MLA and administration many times. But every time they got only assurances, no work. We voted, hoped, but now even hope is failing.
Struggle on the road is a warning
This time the villagers changed their method of protest. They reached the same kutcha road and protested by getting down in the mud. This protest is not just for the road. But it is against the neglect and indifference that this village has suffered for years.
The neglect of public representatives and the indifference of the administration has cut the village off the map. When hopes are broken again and again, then the spark of protest flares up like a fire. Exactly the same happened in Belhan Tola. Now it remains to be seen how long the government and administration ignores this voice, or whether the struggle of Belhan Tola becomes an example in the entire district.
