REWA: In a tragic turn of events, the body of a 25-year-old youth was recovered from a local pond in Amiliha village, under the Manikwar police outpost jurisdiction in Rewa district, on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Agnihotri, a resident of Duari village within the Gudh police station limits. According to local authorities, the youth had been missing since Friday, triggering a frantic search by his family members. The discovery has sent shockwaves through his native village, coming at a time when the family was already mourning another loss.
Discovery near Amiliha pond
The matter came to light on Saturday afternoon when some residents of Amiliha village spotted a body floating in the village pond. Sensing trouble, the villagers immediately alerted the local police outpost.
A police team rushed to the spot shortly after receiving the information. With the assistance of local divers and villagers, the body was pulled out of the water. Upon inspecting the belongings and circulating the information, the police summoned Sagar’s family members, who subsequently identified the body.
Double tragedy for family
The news of Sagar’s sudden demise has left his family devastated. Relatives revealed that the household was already gripped by grief due to the recent passing of another family member.
Ironically, the family was preparing for the 'Tehravin' (traditional 13th-day mourning rituals) scheduled for Saturday. The preparation turned into absolute chaos and mourning as news of Sagar's body being found reached the house. A heavy silence has descended over Duari village as neighbours gathered to support the grieving family.
Disappearance on Friday
Initial reports indicate that Sagar had left his house on Friday morning without informing anyone. When he failed to return by late evening, his family members started searching for him among relatives and nearby localities.
"He went missing on Friday, and we were looking for him everywhere," a relative stated on condition of anonymity. The family was planning to approach the police after the completion of Saturday's rituals, unaware that the search would end in such a tragic manner.
Police launch investigation
The Gudh police have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated a formal inquiry. The body was sent to the district hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Gudh Police Station In-charge Shail Yadav confirmed the development, stating that the police have registered a case under relevant sections regarding the unnatural death. "The youth had been missing since Friday. After receiving information about the body, a police team completed the initial spot assessment (panchnama). The body has been sent for an autopsy," Yadav said.
Post-mortem report awaited
Local authorities confirmed that they are probing the case from multiple angles, including accidental drowning and other possibilities. No suicide note or external injury marks were immediately reported from the spot.
"We are investigating all possible angles in the case. The exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report is received. Further legal action will be taken based on the medical findings and subsequent investigation," the Station In-charge added.
