Rewa’s Bihra River Bridge Repair Work Completed, Traffic Likely From May 12

The repair work on the Bihra River bridge in Rewa has been completed after more than a month, with authorities preparing to restore vehicle movement from May 12.

Major Repair Work Completed

After weeks of disruption and traffic congestion, movement on the old Bihra River bridge located on the Rewa bypass road is expected to resume from May 12. Officials said the repair and strengthening work on the bridge has now been completed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC).

The bridge had been partially shut for heavy vehicles since April 5 after structural concerns were identified. The closure affected traffic flow on one of the city’s key bypass routes and led to severe congestion at several points across Rewa during the initial days of diversion arrangements.

Technical Upgradation Finished

According to officials associated with the project, all major technical work on the bridge has been completed. This included micro concreting, grinding, epoxy grouting and repair work on the girders and pier caps.

Engineers supervising the project said the repairs were carried out under technical monitoring to improve the structural stability and long-term safety of the bridge. The final stage now involves inspection and testing before full restoration of traffic.

MPRDC General Manager Anshul Karodiya said the final technical assessment process is currently underway and traffic movement will begin soon after clearance is granted.

Traffic Hit Since April

The closure of the bridge in early April had a visible impact on traffic movement across the city. Heavy vehicles were diverted to alternative routes, while commuters using the bypass faced long delays, especially during peak hours.

For nearly 10 days after the shutdown, several areas around the bypass corridor witnessed heavy traffic jams. Local residents and transport operators had raised concerns over delays and rising travel time due to the restricted movement.

The situation gradually improved after traffic management measures were introduced, though congestion continued during busy hours.

Key Route For City

The Bihra River bridge is considered an important link for vehicles moving through the Rewa bypass stretch. The route is frequently used by commercial transport vehicles and intercity traffic moving toward nearby districts and highways.

Officials said reopening the bridge is expected to significantly reduce pressure on diversion routes and restore smoother traffic flow across the bypass area.

The repair work was undertaken as a preventive measure to avoid larger structural risks in the future. Authorities had earlier indicated that the bridge required strengthening after signs of wear were noticed during inspections.

Final Inspection Underway

Sources familiar with the project said the bridge has successfully undergone most of the restoration procedures and only final-level verification remains pending. Engineers are expected to complete load and safety checks before allowing unrestricted movement.

Though officials have indicated May 12 as the likely reopening date, the exact timing of traffic restoration may depend on the completion of the inspection process.

Relief For Commuters

Residents and daily commuters are now expecting relief after more than a month of disruptions. Transporters operating through the bypass route also anticipate reduced fuel costs and travel delays once the Bihra River bridge becomes operational again.

The reopening is likely to ease pressure on internal city roads that had been handling diverted traffic since early April.

With the repair work completed, the Rewa administration and MPRDC are now focusing on restoring normal traffic movement while ensuring safety standards are maintained on the bridge.
