Rewa Tractor-Trailer Hit Kills Man, Two Injured on Highway 39
Victims were standing near a bike on National Highway 39 when an uncontrolled trailer hit them; family members blocked the road for two hours in Rewa's Gugh area.
A late-night conversation by the roadside turned into a fatal tragedy on National Highway 39 near the Mahsaan Chaurdiar turn in Rewa district. A speeding and uncontrolled trailer ploughed into a group of young men standing next to their bike in the early hours of Wednesday, killing one on the spot and leaving two others with critical injuries.
The collision was so severe that the body of the deceased was reportedly torn apart. The trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving behind a trail of debris and chaos.
Sequence of the accident
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 2:45 am. The victims were residents of nearby villages and had parked their motorcycle on the side of the Rewa-Sidhi stretch of the highway. Sources familiar with the matter said they had stopped to talk for a few minutes when a trailer coming from the Sidhi side lost control and rammed into them.
The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kol (35), son of late Sudama Kol, a resident of Mahsaan Bhaiya Tola. The two injured individuals are Chhote Kol, a resident of the Chaurdiar turn, and his brother-in-law. They were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa for treatment, where their condition is stated to be serious.
Family’s anguish and roadblock
News of the death triggered intense anger among the victim’s relatives and local villagers. By early morning, a large crowd had gathered at the accident site, blocking the national highway for nearly two hours. The protest brought traffic on the busy route to a complete halt, with vehicles lining up on both sides as family members refused to hand over the body.
Local authorities confirmed that Gugh police station in-charge Shail Yadav reached the spot with a team to calm the situation. Given the scale of the protest, additional personnel from Govindgarh, Samaan, Civil Lines, University, and Raipur Karchuliyan police stations were also deployed.
Admin intervention, assurance given
Officials realised the situation had the potential to escalate further. Gugh Tehsildar Arun Yadav arrived at the scene and spoke directly to the grieving family. He assured them of all possible help from the administration and requested them to clear the highway.
Meanwhile, Mahsaan Sarpanch Abhijeet Singh showed immediate sensitivity by providing โน5,000 in cash to the deceased’s family for the last rites. A senior police officer said, “The priority was to restore traffic and ensure the injured got timely treatment. The family was understandably upset, but the situation was resolved after talks.”
Search for driver, post-mortem underway
After nearly two hours of persuasion, the family agreed to lift the blockade. Police have sent Manoj Kol’s body to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to be conducted later in the day. A case has been registered against the unidentified trailer driver, and teams have been formed to trace him.
The deceased had reportedly come to Chaurdiar turn to attend his brother-in-law’s wedding. The accident took place just a few steps away from the wedding venue, a detail that has added to the family’s shock.
