Rewa-posted constable found dead in Khandwa; probe launched
The victim, an MP Police constable hailing from Barwani, was reportedly on a 5-day leave when his body was discovered hanging from a tree on the Indore-Khandwa highway.
Panic gripped the Balaji Dham Colony area on the Indore-Khandwa highway early Friday morning after the body of a Madhya Pradesh Police constable was found hanging from a tree. The deceased has been identified as Ansingh Nargave, a resident of Barwani district, who was currently posted at the Garh police station in Rewa district.
Local commuters spotted the body near the highway and alerted the authorities. A team from the Padmanagar police station rushed to the spot shortly after. During a preliminary search of a bag found near the body, officials recovered identification documents that confirmed his identity as a serving constable in the state police force.
Identification and service details
The deceased, a native of Murari village in the Rajpur area of Barwani, had been serving in the Rewa district for some time. "Initial findings suggest the victim was a constable with the Rewa police. We recovered his belongings from the site, which helped in the swift identification of the body," a senior official at the spot said.
Constable was on leave
As per the investigation conducted so far, Ansingh had recently applied for leave from his posting in Rewa. Padmanagar Police Station In-charge Jagdish Jamre confirmed that they established contact with the Rewa police to track his movement.
"We were informed by the Rewa authorities that the constable had taken a five-day leave starting Tuesday. He was supposed to head to his hometown in Barwani," Jamre said. However, how he ended up in Khandwa, which is not on the direct rail route between Rewa and Barwani, remains a matter of investigation.
Family informed of tragedy
The Khandwa police have officially notified the family members of the deceased in Barwani. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to the district hospital to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police are also looking into his mobile phone records to see who he was in contact with during his journey.
Search for motive continues
While the case appears to be a suicide, no note was recovered from the site or from the victim’s personal belongings. Friends and colleagues from the Garh police station are likely to be questioned to understand if the constable was under any professional or personal stress.
"The reasons behind this extreme step are not yet clear. We are waiting for the family to arrive in Khandwa. Their statements, along with inputs from his colleagues in Rewa, will provide more clarity," the Padmanagar TI added.
Ground reality and next steps
The incident has caused a stir in the local police department, especially given the victim’s young age and service background. For now, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the CrPC, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the Indore highway spot. Traffic on the Indore-Khandwa road remained affected for a brief period in the morning as onlookers gathered at the scene.
