REWA SWELTERS AS MERCURY CROSSES 42°C; HEAT TO INTENSIFY OVER NEXT THREE DAYS
Temperature surge leaves residents struggling with heatwave conditions; forecasters warn of little relief ahead
The heat in Rewa has turned aggressive. On Tuesday, the city experienced clear skies and dry conditions, with the intense afternoon sun pushing the maximum temperature to around 42 degrees Celsius. The minimum remained near 27°C. By midday, residents reported heatwave-like conditions, with noticeably fewer people venturing outdoors.
Looking back at the past three days reveals a steady climb. Monday saw temperatures peak at 41°C with a low of 26°C. Sunday recorded 40°C as the high and 25°C as the low. Saturday held around 39°C. Day after day, the relentless sun and climbing thermometer have made heat the dominant concern for residents.
TEMPERATURE SET TO SPIKE FURTHER
The next three days offer no respite. According to weather forecasts, maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will remain around 26 to 28°C. Clear skies will persist, and the chances of rain are virtually nonexistent—meaning the heat will only intensify.
Local resident Rajesh Mishra expressed frustration about the situation. "Stepping out during afternoon hours has become difficult. It feels like the intense heat of May and June has already arrived," he said. Sarita Tiwari, another resident, added concerns about vulnerable groups: "Children and elderly people are suffering the most. Even coolers and fans are becoming less effective now."
STREETS EMPTIER AS HEAT PEAKS
The impact is visible across the city. Streets that normally bustle with activity show considerably less foot traffic during peak hours. Shopkeepers report slower business, with customers avoiding daytime visits. Autorickshaw drivers say fewer people are willing to travel, preferring to stay indoors.
Health workers in the area have begun issuing precautions. They advise residents to drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, particularly in children and the elderly.
AUTHORITIES REMAIN ALERT
While no official heat alert has been issued yet, municipal authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Water supply has been adjusted to handle increased demand, and cooling centers have been kept on standby.
Rewa is currently in the grip of an early and severe heat spell. With temperatures expected to climb further and no rain in sight, residents face a challenging week ahead. Experts recommend taking precautions—staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity, and checking on neighbors, especially those living alone or with health vulnerabilities.
