When the road became a field: When the road was not built even after the promise, the villagers staged a unique protest, sowed paddy in the mud filled potholes
Shahdol, MP
From scams to protests in Madhya Pradesh, everything is very strange. One such case has come to light from Shahdol where the villagers protested in a unique way for the demand of a road.
When the demand for a road for years and the promises made regarding it were not fulfilled, the people sowed paddy on the mud road. This unique protest is not only showing the mirror to the administration, but is also exposing the reality of the promises made by the public representatives.
In fact, the villagers are facing a lot of trouble due to the absence of a road in ward number 1 of the Gram Panchayat Papaundh of Janpad Panchayat Byahari. They face a lot of trouble in commuting due to the mud filled road. Mainly school children have to face trouble in going to school. Whenever there is heavy rain, the road gets completely affected, due to which the villagers remain hostage.
The village road is completely filled with mud and water. In such a situation, the angry villagers have now used this potholed road as a field and planted paddy in it. Everyone is surprised to see this method of protesting.
The villagers say that they have been demanding a road for the last several years, but till date they have only received assurances. During the rainy season, the road is filled with mud and potholes, due to which people face a lot of trouble in commuting. The most difficult problem on the muddy road is faced by small children, who go through this route every day to go to school. Many times in the rain, children slip, their clothes get soaked in mud and often they are unable to reach the school.
The villagers said that they have raised their problem many times from the District Panchayat to the MLA and the Collector. But till date no one has found a permanent solution. They say that everyone comes to ask for votes, but no one comes to solve the problem. The villagers have warned that if the road construction does not start soon, they will launch a big movement against the administration and public representatives.
