According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of December 25. The victim, a resident of Tilwara, lodged a complaint at Adhartal police station the following day, after which swift action was taken. The accused were arrested from their homes within hours of the FIR being registered.

Police identified the accused as Babu Durgashankar Singraha (58), an Upper Division Clerk at the university, and Mukesh Sen, a peon. Both were produced before a court on Friday and remanded to jail.

Investigators said the woman had come across information on social media about contractual job vacancies at the university around 20 days ago. While searching for official contact details, she called a number listed for the Vice-Chancellor’s office, which was answered by Durgashankar. He allegedly asked her to submit documents and assured her of help in securing employment.

The woman told police that after multiple meetings and repeated assurances, Durgashankar called her to the university on December 25, citing an upcoming interview. She was taken to Krishi Nagar Colony, where she was allegedly led to the peon’s residence. According to her statement, she was sexually assaulted while the second accused assisted.

The victim further alleged that after the incident, both men threatened her with defamation and falsely promised a job if she remained silent. She managed to return home late that night and informed her family before approaching the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh confirmed the arrests, stating that the main accused exploited the victim’s need for employment, while the peon played a supporting role.

Police said further investigation is underway, including examination of institutional procedures and possible security lapses on campus.
