Woman Dies at Reethi Hospital; Family Alleges Negligence, Doctors Deny Delay in Treatment

A 30-year-old woman died during treatment at the government hospital in Reethi, Katni, on Sunday morning, leading to allegations of medical negligence by her family members. The deceased was identified as Durga Yadav, a resident of Chargawan village.

According to reports, Durga was admitted to the Reethi Government Hospital on Saturday after her health suddenly deteriorated. However, her condition worsened overnight, and she passed away the next morning.

Following her death, agitated family members staged a protest at the hospital, accusing the medical staff of not providing timely treatment.

Family Claims Delayed Medical Attention

Durga’s husband, Devendra Yadav, alleged that doctors arrived late and failed to treat his wife properly. “If she had received timely and adequate care, my wife could have survived,” he claimed, demanding an official inquiry and action against the responsible hospital staff.

Doctors Refute Claims, Cite Pre-Existing Illness

In response to the allegations, Dr. Meghendra Shrivastava, one of the attending physicians, stated that Durga had been suffering from multiple health issues for months. “She was already a TB and asthma patient. We had treated her several times earlier,” he said.

Dr. Shrivastava added that when Durga arrived, her condition was already critical. “We advised her family to shift her to the district hospital for advanced care, but they refused. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t save her due to the severity of her illness,” he explained.

He further mentioned that the patient had been taking medicines from unqualified practitioners in her village, which may have masked her symptoms and delayed proper treatment.

Authorities are likely to review the matter as the family continues to demand accountability from the hospital administration.
