A fast-track court in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district has sentenced a 31-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman on the false promise of marriage. The court held that consent obtained through deception—especially a fraudulent assurance of marriage—cannot be considered valid consent and therefore constitutes rape under law.
