The makers of the upcoming war drama Border 2 launched the film’s song Ghar Kab Aaoge on Friday at the historic Longewala–Tanot region in Rajasthan, close to the India–Pakistan border. The event, held near the Tanot Mata Temple, was conceived as a tribute to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and their families, underscoring the film’s central theme of sacrifice and service to the nation.
The launch brought together lead actors Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, along with singer Sonu Nigam and co-producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta. Sonu Nigam performed the song live at the open-air amphitheatre in front of the temple, singing alongside BSF jawans in a moment that drew prolonged applause from the gathered soldiers and their families.
A symbolic moment unfolded on stage when Ahan Shetty touched Sunny Deol’s feet to seek his blessings. The gesture carried personal resonance, as Ahan’s father, Suniel Shetty, had featured in the original 1997 film Border. The interaction was seen as a passing of the baton between generations connected to the franchise.
Addressing the gathering, Varun Dhawan spoke about the relevance of patriotic cinema, referencing the 1971 India–Pakistan war that forms the backdrop of the Border films. He said India believes in peace, but stories like Border remind younger generations of the country’s strength and preparedness. Dhawan also recited a dialogue from the film, prompting loud cheers from the audience.
Sunny Deol, who reprises a key role in the sequel, reflected on his own journey with patriotic films. He recalled being inspired by his father Dharmendra’s war film Haqeeqat during his childhood and later approaching filmmaker J.P. Dutta with the desire to make a film rooted in similar values, which eventually led to Border.
The song Ghar Kab Aaoge is a reimagined version of the iconic track from the original film. The new rendition features voices of Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, joined by Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh and Vishal Mishra. The music has been recomposed by Mithoon, with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir complementing Javed Akhtar’s original lines. The audio track runs over 10 minutes, while the video has been edited to a shorter format.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
