Bollywood actor Anupam Kher expressed disappointment on Monday after his connecting flight from Varanasi to Khajuraho was cancelled, forcing him to miss his scheduled appearance at the Khajuraho International Film Festival. The actor, however, struck a composed note, saying he would use the unexpected halt to enjoy the city’s food and visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Kher had arrived in Varanasi from Hyderabad on an IndiGo Airlines flight and was set to travel onward to Khajuraho, where his film Tanvi the Great was to be screened at the festival. The cancellation disrupted his travel plans and led to the postponement of his participation in the event.
Taking to social media platform X, the actor shared his experience through a post and a video message. He said the situation left him frustrated but added that there was little value in complaining. “I want to vent my disappointment, but now I will eat kachori,” he remarked, adding that he would also savour local delicacies such as gulab jamun and chaat during his unplanned stay.
The flight cancellation came amid widespread disruptions at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. According to airport sources, at least nine flights were cancelled during the day, including one Air India service and eight IndiGo flights, largely due to adverse weather conditions affecting northern India.
Responding to Kher’s post, IndiGo Airlines issued a statement expressing regret over the inconvenience. The airline cited dense fog and poor weather as the reasons behind the cancellation of the Varanasi–Khajuraho sector and said multiple flights across its network were impacted. IndiGo added that timely updates had been sent to passengers and acknowledged Kher’s calm and understanding response.
The airline also extended its best wishes to the actor and his team for the film festival, expressing hope to host him again under better circumstances.
Kher later indicated that he would use the pause in travel to seek blessings at the Vishwanath temple before resuming his journey.
