Prominent Bollywood personalities such as Mukesh Khanna, Ranvir Shorey, Darshan Jariwala, Lilliput, Jameel Khan, Inaamulhaq, and filmmaker Sudipto Sen attended the festival’s inauguration. Around 20 filmmakers from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are also participating in the event.
Actor Darshan Jariwala praised the festival’s effort to promote regional cinema and called for similar initiatives across India. “Such events connect audiences with new forms of storytelling. Every state capital should host film festivals that encourage local filmmakers,” he said.
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna commended Uttarakhand’s talent, noting that film festivals provide essential exposure for aspiring artists. “There are many talented individuals in this state waiting for opportunities. Events like this can help them step into the mainstream,” he added.
State Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, who inaugurated the festival, said such events not only support local talent but also boost tourism and the regional economy. “Our film policy offers several incentives to filmmakers. When producers visit Uttarakhand for festivals, they experience its natural beauty and often choose to shoot their films here,” he said.
Festival organiser Rajesh Sharma stated that the Doon Film Festival serves as a platform for young artists, choreographers, and directors to present their work. “This event bridges Uttarakhand’s talent with the national film industry, giving youth a chance to learn, network, and grow,” he said.
The festival will conclude with an award ceremony recognising excellence in regional and independent cinema.
