Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has made an emotional appeal for the release of her brother, retired Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for nearly a year. Sharing her anguish on social media, the actress revealed she hasn’t “slept a single night without crying” since his arrest, while expressing faith in the Indian government’s intervention.
On November 3, the Delhi High Court took cognisance of the case, offering a glimmer of hope to the family. Justice Sachin Datta issued a notice to the government on Celina’s petition and directed the filing of a status report. The court also appointed a Nodal Officer to coordinate with officials in India and the UAE to expedite efforts for Major Jaitly’s release.
“After 14 long and painful months, I finally see a ray of hope,” Celina wrote after the hearing. “The court has shown compassion and directed necessary action. My brother fought for this nation; now it’s our turn to stand by him.”
Major Vikrant Jaitly, a decorated Army officer from the 3 Para (Special Forces) unit, reportedly went missing nine months before being confirmed as detained in the UAE. Details surrounding his arrest remain unclear, but Celina alleges he was wrongfully targeted.
Appealing to the government, she wrote, “I have complete faith that India will stand by its soldier, a fourth-generation patriot who has devoted his youth to the country.”
Celina, who hails from a family with a long military lineage, also condemned what she described as “unjust targeting of Indian soldiers abroad.” The actress said she remains steadfast in her fight for justice, adding, “This is a test from God, and I will overcome it with courage.”
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has yet to issue an official statement regarding the case
