'Kaala Hiran' Controversy Deepens as Somy Ali Backs Producer Amid Threat Claims
Digital Desk
Salman Khan's former girlfriend Somy Ali has come out in support of 'Kaala Hiran' producer Amit Jani after he alleged receiving death threats following a legal notice over the film.
The controversy surrounding Kaala Hiran has taken a new turn.
Somy Ali's remarks have added fresh momentum to an already heated debate over the film and freedom of expression.
The row over Kaala Hiran, a film reportedly inspired by the blackbuck poaching case linked to actor Salman Khan, intensified after producer Amit Jani claimed he was receiving threats following a legal notice sent by Salman Khan's legal team. Amid the escalating dispute, Salman Khan's former girlfriend and actress Somy Ali publicly supported Jani, saying filmmakers have the right to make films on any subject and that only guilty people resort to intimidation.
According to Amit Jani, he has received thousands of threatening messages in the aftermath of the legal notice. In videos shared on social media, he alleged that some messages threatened him and his family. These claims, however, have not been independently verified.
Somy Ali Extends Support
Reacting to one of Jani's posts, Somy Ali commented that every filmmaker has the right to make a film on any topic. She further wrote that people who are guilty often try to hide behind threats.
Her remarks quickly gained attention on social media and reignited discussions over artistic freedom and the limits of legal action in creative works.
Notice Torn in Video
Earlier, Amit Jani released a video on Instagram in which he tore up the legal notice allegedly sent on behalf of Salman Khan. In the video, he claimed that he would not be intimidated by threats and insisted that his film is not entirely based on Salman Khan's life.
He had previously stated that Kaala Hiran is not a biopic and that the story is not told solely from Salman Khan's perspective.
Background of the Blackbuck Case
The blackbuck poaching case dates back to 1998 during the shooting of Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Jodhpur. Along with Salman Khan, actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam were also named in the case.
In April 2018, a Jodhpur court sentenced Salman Khan to five years in prison in the Kankani blackbuck poaching case, while the other actors were acquitted. Salman later secured bail and remains out on bail while the matter is pending before the Rajasthan High Court.
According to court records, the next hearing in the case is scheduled for July 13, 2026.
Teaser Scheduled for June 20
The makers have already unveiled the poster of Kaala Hiran and announced that its teaser and first look will be released on June 20. Reports suggest that the film will explore events linked to the blackbuck case and the subsequent controversy involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Impact and Debate
The controversy has once again brought questions of personality rights, creative freedom and public discourse into focus. Legal experts and film observers say disputes involving real-life events and public figures often lead to debates over artistic expression and the boundaries of representation
