Actor-producer Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, spoke publicly for the first time on Sunday following his arrest in a firing incident in Mumbai’s Oshiwara area. Granted bail on a personal bond of ₹25,000, KRK told ANI that he has held a licensed firearm for 22 years and has never violated the law.
“The police must have had some suspicion, which is why this happened, but I cannot say who is right and who is wrong. The court will decide that,” KRK said. He added, “I have had a gun license for 22 years, and in these 22 years, I have never broken any law to date.”
The incident occurred last week when Mumbai Police detained KRK for questioning regarding a firing at Oshiwara. Authorities stated that during the investigation, KRK admitted the shots were fired from his licensed weapon, which led to his arrest. He was subsequently released on bail.
Kamaal R Khan, who first gained mainstream attention as a contestant on Bigg Boss Season 3 in 2009, is widely known as a self-styled film critic and social media commentator. He has often courted controversy for his outspoken and critical remarks on Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgn. Salman Khan had previously filed a defamation suit against KRK following his comments.
In addition to his work as a critic, KRK has acted and produced films. He played the lead in the 2008 movie Deshdrohi, which he also produced, and appeared in a supporting role in the 2014 hit Ek Villain. Despite his controversial public persona, KRK maintains that he has adhered to legal boundaries regarding his firearm ownership.
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed whether further legal proceedings are expected, emphasizing that the matter is under judicial review. KRK’s statement underscores his claim of responsible firearm use while leaving the final determination to the courts.
This incident adds to KRK’s history of media attention, both for his cinematic endeavors and his frequent online controversies. Observers note that his arrest and bail highlight the scrutiny public figures face when their actions intersect with legal regulations.
