Mumtaz Reveals She Quit Acting Due to Pressure from In-Laws

During the conversation, actress Mumtaz shared that she didn’t leave her acting career by choice, but rather due to pressure from her in-laws. Despite being one of the highest-paid actresses at the time, with a fee of ₹7.5 lakh per film, she decided to quit acting when her in-laws insisted that she should stop working.

It’s worth noting that Mumtaz married Ugandan millionaire Mayur Madhvani in 1974, after which she distanced herself from films and settled in London.

Mumtaz Opens Up About Yash Chopra’s Affection Towards Her

When Mumtaz was asked if it was true that Yash Chopra liked her and pursued her, she gave a clear response. She said, "Not just once, he must have asked me to marry him a thousand times. But I didn’t love him, so how could I marry him? There was nothing between us." She further revealed, "He would often say to me, 'Hey moti, I love you, yaar, marry me.'"

The actress added, "I liked Yash Chopra as a producer and director. But our relationship never went beyond that professional boundary. As a person, he was one of the best. He always made everyone laugh on set. When he passed away, I cried my heart out."
