New Arrest in Rohit Shetty Firing Case; Alleged Arms Supplier Held

Mumbai Police have intensified their probe into the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, with the Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell arresting another accused linked to the supply of the weapon used in the attack.

With this arrest, the total number of accused in custody has risen to five. However, the main shooter who allegedly carried out the firing remains absconding, and police teams continue to search for him.

Weapon supply link revealed

According to the police, the newly arrested accused supplied the firearm used in the firing outside Shetty’s home. He is scheduled to be produced before the Mumbai’s Killa Court later on Thursday, where the police will seek his custodial remand for further questioning.

Meanwhile, the police custody of the four accused arrested earlier in the case is set to end today.

Late-night attack in Juhu

Rohit Shetty resides in Mumbai’s Juhu area. The firing incident occurred late on Saturday night at around 12:45 am, when multiple rounds were fired at the first floor of a nine-storey residential building. Investigators have found that at least five bullets were fired, one of which struck the glass of the building’s gymnasium.

Accused linked to Pune

The four accused arrested earlier in the case are residents of Pune. They have been identified as:

  • Aditya Gyaneshwar Gaikwad (19)

  • Siddharth Deepak Yenpure (20)

  • Samarth Shivsharan Pomaji (18)

  • Swapnil Bandu Sakat (23)

Cases have been registered against them under various sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Conspiracy and logistical support

Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested accused did not directly fire at the house but were involved in providing logistical support, including vehicles, resources and planning. Police officials said the trail of the accused leads to Shubham Lonkar, who has been declared wanted in the case.

Investigators believe that Samarth Pomaji and Shubham Lonkar jointly hatched the conspiracy, while arrangements such as a scooter for the attacker were made on the advice of Aditya Gaikwad.

Police are also probing whether an organised criminal gang was behind the attack. A social media post, allegedly linked to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the firing. Authorities are verifying the authenticity of the claim.

For now, the focus of the investigation remains on arresting the main shooter and the alleged mastermind, which officials say is crucial to exposing the entire network involved in the attack.
