Rashmika Mandanna on Deepika Padukone’s 8-Hour Shift Controversy: “It’s Not About Debate, It’s About Understanding”

Following the controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit — reportedly over her demand for a higher fee and an eight-hour work shift — actress Rashmika Mandanna has shared her perspective on the issue

In a recent interview with gulte.com, Rashmika said that flexible working models are being discussed globally, and it’s crucial to set clear expectations before signing any project. “Working hours should be discussed within the team, and everyone should agree on what works best for them — it’s a personal choice,” she remarked.

Speaking about her own experiences across Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi cinema, Rashmika noted that she’s comfortable working in any schedule — whether it’s 9 to 6 or 9 to 9 — as long as it aligns with the film’s requirements. Her priority, she said, is to stay focused and give her best during the committed time.

The actress emphasized that instead of arguing over the length of shifts, what truly matters is mutual understanding and professionalism. “What’s important is being present, active, and efficient during the hours you’ve agreed upon,” she added.

Rashmika’s balanced and pragmatic take on the matter reflects a broader awareness of evolving work culture in the film industry. Her statement, many believe, adds a constructive voice to the ongoing debate on working conditions and may help shape more inclusive and flexible standards for artists in the future
