Sachet–Parampara Hit Back at Amaal Mallik Over ‘Bekhayali’ Claim, Seek Public Apology

A public row has erupted in the music industry after composer Amaal Mallik claimed in an interview that the chartbuster “Bekhayali” from the 2019 film Kabir Singh was originally his composition and was later “stolen”. The song’s creators, the composer-singer duo Sachet–Parampara, have dismissed the allegation as “completely false” and demanded a public apology.
The duo issued a detailed seven-minute video on Wednesday, calling Mallik’s claim an attempt to “defame” them. They also indicated they are prepared to pursue legal action if necessary. “This video could have been ten seconds long, but for our mental peace it was important to expose some people,” they wrote in the accompanying caption, directly naming Mallik.
In the video, Parampara Tandon said the entire Kabir Singh team was present when the song was composed. “Amaal Mallik is claiming he created ‘Bekhayali’ or that the director told him it was copied. This is completely false. We have complete chats with him and with the film’s team,” she said.
Sachet Tandon added that accusations of industry favouritism were baseless. “We were not associated with T-Series before Kabir Singh. Amaal has been with them since 2015. We are outsiders. Why would anyone favour us?” he said.
The duo also displayed WhatsApp messages they claim were sent by Mallik after the song’s release. “Even if we assume we stole your song, why were you congratulating us? You told us we sounded amazing and asked for tags and links,” Sachet said in the video.
They urged Mallik to present evidence to support his allegation. “If you have proof, come forward. We want an apology in public. You chose social media to defame us, and we will go to court if needed,” Sachet added.
Kabir Singh, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, featured multiple hit tracks, including two composed by Sachet–Parampara. Mallik also contributed one song to the soundtrack. The controversy has sparked debate within the industry over credit, collaboration and the rising trend of public disputes unfolding online.
