Salman Khan Faces Consumer Court Case in Kota Over Allegedly Misleading Pan Masala Advertisement

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has landed in legal trouble after a consumer complaint was filed against him in Kota, Rajasthan, alleging that his endorsement of Rajshree Pan Masala misleads consumers. The complaint, lodged by lawyer and politician Inder Mohan Singh Honey, accuses the actor of promoting false claims about the product’s ingredients.
According to the complaint, Khan’s advertisements describe Rajshree Pan Masala as containing“saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala,” assertions that Honey calls “deceptive and unrealistic” given the product’s low retail price. “Saffron costs nearly Rs 4 lakh per kilogram. It’s impossible that a pan masala pouch sold forRs5 genuinely contains saffron,” Honey stated.
The Kota District Consumer Court has acknowledged the complaint and issued notices to Salman Khan and the manufacturer, demanding responses ahead of a scheduled hearing on November 27, 2025.
Honey has also sought a ban on the advertisement, arguing that it not only misleads buyers but also encourages the consumption of pan masala, a product linked to cancer and other health risks. “Salman Khan is a role model for millions. By endorsing such a product, he is setting a dangerous precedent, especially for young people,” Honey told reporters.
The case has reignited the debate around celebrity accountability in brand endorsements, particularly for products with health implications. India’s consumer protection laws hold endorsers responsible for misleading advertisements, and a ruling against Khan could establish a strong legal precedent.
As of now, Salman Khan or his representatives have not issued a public statement on the matter. The hearing later this month will determine whether the advertisements violated consumer protection standards or misrepresented the product’s contents.
