Sameera Reddy’s Film Chimni Inspired by True Events, Vampire Is a Metaphor, Says Director
Sameera Reddy’s upcoming film Chimni is based on real-life incidents. The director clarified that the vampire in the story is symbolic, representing deeper societal fears, not a supernatural ghost.
Sameera Reddy's upcoming horror-thriller Chimni is an unusual horror story, inspired not by any ghost fiction but by a rare medical condition called fetus in fetu. In this condition, an incomplete twin fetus develops inside a newborn baby, making it appear as if the child is pregnant. The teaser of the film, released on Thursday, gave a glimpse of the mix of emotions, folklore and real horror.
Director Gagan Puri said that the idea came to him when a writer told him about this rare true incident. He said, "I did not want to make it just a horror film, but it was important to connect it with reality. So I set it in the backdrop of a tier-3 village and kept the dialogues and screenplay very real." The story of the film takes place in a cursed palace in Chanderi, where Sameera Reddy is playing the role of a mother named 'Kaali'. She tries to save her daughter from an invisible evil force. Unlike conventional horror films, Chimni has neither flying ghosts nor scary screams. Puri explains, "Our vampire is not a monster from outside, he looks and speaks like us. He comes in the form of your deepest desires and when you believe him, he asks for your life. This is a symbol, the deepest desire within us can become the biggest threat."
The director compared the film to Tumbbad and said that Chimni also opens the depths of human nature layer by layer. The film does not just show external fear, but also brings out mental and emotional fear.
Apart from Sameer Reddy, Prachi Thakur, Shardul Rana, Aditya Kumar, Preeti Chaudhary and Saurabh Agnihotri will also be seen in the film. It is produced by Shah Creative Entertainment.
