Actress Sangeeta Bijlani has applied for a gun licence, citing growing concerns about her safety following a theft and vandalism incident at her farmhouse near Pune three months ago.
Speaking to PTI, the former Miss India (1980) said the robbery had left her deeply disturbed and anxious about her security. “I have been living there for 20 years. Pavana has always been home for me. It’s been three and a half months since the horrific incident, yet there’s been no breakthrough in the investigation. It was frightening — obscene graffiti was drawn on the walls. Thankfully, I wasn’t there at the time,” she said.
Bijlani recently met Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill to check on the progress of the probe and formally requested permission to own a firearm for self-defense.
“For the first time, I feel the need to carry a weapon for my safety. Earlier, I never thought about getting a gun licence, but now I feel vulnerable — especially when I’m alone. I hope authorities act quickly and restore confidence among residents,” she added.
The actress said the robbery has shaken not only her but also other residents of the Pavana Dam area, where many senior citizens and families live. SP Gill reportedly assured her that the police are committed to identifying and arresting the culprits soon.
The July incident involved unidentified individuals breaking into Bijlani’s farmhouse near Pawna Dam, vandalizing property, and stealing valuables. According to police reports, the intruders damaged appliances such as a refrigerator, TV, and furniture, drew obscene images on the walls, and stole ₹50,000 in cash and a television worth ₹7,000.
Bijlani, who was in a relationship with Salman Khan for nearly a decade in the 1980s, said she had never before felt the need for armed protection but now believes it’s essential for personal security. “This has been a wake-up call,” she said.
