Param’s Journey: From Moga Streets to Mumbai

Early Passion for Music
Paramjit Kaur, popularly known as Param, comes from a humble family—her mother is a domestic worker, and her father is a laborer. Her love for music began in the 10th grade, inspired by her maternal uncle who sang at local Jagrans.

College and Music Training
At DM College, Moga, Param studied music, formed a group, and began posting her songs on Facebook.

Discovery by British Producer
British Punjabi music producer Manni Sandhu discovered Param through her Facebook posts. He visited India and planned a music shoot with her.

Viral Hit: ‘That Girl’
The song was recorded in Mohali, in a style reminiscent of Gully Boy, using a van mic to capture natural street sounds. Param’s raw and authentic voice turned the track into a hit, earning her the nickname ‘Gali Girl’.

Humble Beginnings
Param grew up in a small 2-room house. Despite her rising fame, she rarely visits her old streets, though neighbors proudly hum her songs. In her hometown, children often mimic her lyrics and style, showing her growing influence.

Musical Roots in Dana Mandi Moga
Param and her classmate Saab, who wrote ‘That Girl’, used to practice hip-hop in Dana Mandi, Moga. They recorded songs and uploaded them on Instagram under Saab’s page, ‘Malwa Hood’ (Cypher PB29). This grassroots effort helped them gain recognition far beyond Punjab.

From Moga to Mumbai
Param’s journey is a testament to perseverance and passion. From small-town beginnings and street performances, she has now reached Mumbai with a growing fan base and her first major show. While she hasn’t revealed the show’s exact date, her rise from Moga to the national stage has inspired many aspiring artists.
