Trump Targets Foreign Cinema: 100% Tax on Non-US Films

In a bold move, Donald Trump has imposed a 100% tariff on films made outside the US, including Bollywood productions. The decision aims to boost domestic cinema but has sparked concerns over global film industry collaborations.

US President Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on Bollywood and other foreign cinema. He himself has given this information on the social media platform Truth. He termed it a major decision aimed at reviving the American film industry i.e. Hollywood. He has authorized the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to immediately initiate such tariffs. However, he did not give any details about how it would be implemented.

Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative (USTR) to begin the process of imposing a 100 percent tariff on all films made outside the US. The US President criticized other countries for luring and offering lucrative incentives to American studios and filmmakers abroad and called the situation a threat to both economic and national security.

Donald Trump said, “The American film industry is dying at a rapid pace. This is a concerted effort by other nations and, therefore, is a threat to national security. This, among other things, is messaging and propaganda.” Trump stressed the need to return to domestic film production and said, “We want movies to be made in the USA again. The new tariffs are intended to level the playing field and encourage studios to continue their operations on American soil.”

He wrote, “The film industry in the US is dying at a rapid pace. Other nations are giving every incentive to pull our film producers and studios away from the US. Hollywood and many other sectors of the U.S.A. are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other nations and, therefore, is a threat to national security. This, among other things, is messaging and propaganda!” Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of imposing a 100% tariff on any and all films produced in foreign lands that enter our country. We want American made movies again!
