Air India Severs Ties with Turkish Company, Aircraft Servicing to Now Happen in India or Friendly Countries

Following recent tensions between India and Pakistan, Air India has taken a major decision by canceling its maintenance contract with the Turkish company ‘Turkish Technic.’ Air India’s Boeing 777 aircraft will no longer be serviced in Turkey. The company’s CEO and MD Campbell Wilson emphasized that “it is important to respect the country’s sentiments.”

This decision by Air India came after Pakistan’s attack on India following the recent 'Operation Sindoor,' during which the use of Turkish drones was confirmed. Subsequently, the Indian government adopted a strict stance against Turkish companies.

Some planes were already sent to Turkey
CEO Wilson informed that some aircraft had already been sent to Turkey for maintenance, but future servicing options are being considered at AIESL (AI Engineering Services Limited), Abu Dhabi, and Singapore.

IndiGo also instructed to end lease agreements
After Air India, IndiGo Airlines is also feeling the impact. On May 30, DGCA limited IndiGo’s lease deal with Turkish Airlines to a final period of three months, after which it will not be extended. The government has directed IndiGo to terminate all lease agreements with Turkish Airlines.

Security clearance of Celebi Airport Services revoked
Earlier, on May 15, aviation security regulator BCAS revoked the security clearance of the Turkish company Celebi Airport Services India Private Limited citing “national security interests.” This step was taken considering Turkey’s anti-India stance.

CEO Statement: Compliance with rules and preparation of alternatives
IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers stated that the company will fully comply with all government regulations and prioritize passenger convenience by implementing alternative measures. He also clarified that under wet leasing, the airline providing the aircraft is responsible for crew, maintenance, and insurance, which will now be restructured.
