Bhargav Mallappa Flags Telegram Phishing Attempt, Urges Stronger Crackdown on Rising Cyber Frau

NBSS National Deputy Chairman reports coordinated phishing links sent to family members, calls for swift investigation and greater public awareness on digital threats

A suspected case of cyber phishing targeting multiple members of a family has been reported by Bhargav Mallappa, National Deputy Chairman of the People Forum of India (NBSS), who has also issued a statement calling for stricter action against rising digital fraud.

According to an official complaint filed on the national cyber-crime portal, Mallappa received a suspicious and unknown link on the messaging platform Telegram on April 11, 2026. The same link was also sent to his wife and brother, suggesting a coordinated attempt to target the family through phishing tactics.

The complaint, registered on April 13 under the category of online and social media-related crime, includes supporting digital evidence submitted for investigation. Mallappa stated that the link was sent by an unidentified individual and raised concerns about potential attempts to access sensitive personal information.

In a statement issued from his office, Mallappa said the incident reflects a broader and growing threat posed by cyber fraud in daily digital communication.

“This is not an isolated case. Such phishing attempts are increasingly targeting individuals and families. There is an urgent need for stronger enforcement, timely investigation, and public awareness to curb these activities,” he said.

He has urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted under relevant provisions of law.
