Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices See Hike of Up to Rs.16.50 Across Major Cities

Businesses relying on commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are facing higher costs as prices for the 19 kg cylinders have increased by up to Rs.16.50 effective today. In Delhi, the new rate stands at Rs.1,595.50, up from Rs.1,580, marking a Rs.15.50 rise.

Kolkata sees the steepest jump at Rs.16.50, bringing the price to Rs.1,700.50 from Rs.1,684. Mumbai's cylinders now cost Rs.1,547, a Rs.15.50 increase, while Chennai's are at Rs.1,754.50 after a Rs.16.50 hike.

Oil marketing companies attribute the adjustment to fluctuations in global crude prices and import duties, though domestic 14.2 kg cylinders remain unchanged to shield households. This selective increase targets commercial users like hotels, restaurants, and small industries, potentially passing on costs to consumers through higher food or service prices.

Hoteliers in Mumbai expressed concern: "This will squeeze our margins amid already rising input costs," said Anita Sharma, owner of a local eatery. Economists warn of mild inflationary pressure in the services sector, but note it's milder than previous hikes.

The government emphasizes monitoring to prevent undue burdens, encouraging energy efficiency. With no changes in petrol or diesel prices, this move highlights targeted economic tweaks. As India pushes for cleaner fuels, businesses may explore alternatives like electric cooking to mitigate long-term impacts.
