Complete your Jan Dhan Account Re-KYC by September 30 to avoid closure
Digital Desk
With the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) marking its 10th anniversary, the Reserve Bank of India mandates that all Jan Dhan accounts opened in 2014–15 must complete re-KYC by September 30, 2025. Failure to update your KYC details may render your account inoperative and disrupt access to government benefits and banking services.
Who Must Complete Re-KYC?
Accounts opened between July 2014 and December 2014 under PMJDY are due for re-KYC, as the initial KYC validity lasts ten years. Nearly 10.5 crore Jan Dhan accounts now require fresh verification to remain active.
Why Is Re-KYC Necessary?
Re-KYC involves updating your personal information such as name, address, and photograph with your bank. This helps prevent fraud, ensures compliance with regulatory norms, and maintains uninterrupted banking services for account holders.
Consequences of Missing the Deadline
If re-KYC is not completed by September 30:
-
Your account will become inoperative, stopping all transactions.
-
Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) and subsidies will not be credited.
-
Overdraft and insurance facilities linked to your account will be suspended.
How Banks Are Facilitating Re-KYC
From July 1 to September 30, government banks have organized over 1.77 lakh re-KYC camps at the gram panchayat level. These camps have already covered 9.5 lakh account holders, with 1.8 lakh completing their re-KYC.
