Tesla's Rival Launches New Car at Half the Price

New Delhi

The craze for electric vehicles (EVs) is rising rapidly, prompting auto companies to frequently launch new models for customers. Recently, BYD (Build Your Dreams) has launched a brand-new electric car, the Seal 06, designed to appeal to the mass market.

Direct Competition with Tesla Model 3

This new BYD EV is seen as a direct competitor to Elon Musk’s Tesla Model 3. In terms of size, the BYD Seal 06 closely matches the Tesla Model 3:

  • Length: 4720 mm
  • Width: 1880 mm
  • Height: 1495 mm

Battery Options and Range

The car comes in two battery variants:

  • 46.08 kWh variant – offers a driving range of up to 470 kilometers on a full charge.
  • 56.64 kWh variant – offers an impressive range of up to 545 kilometers on a single charge.

This combination of size, performance, and extended range positions the Seal 06 as a cost-effective alternative to Tesla, particularly in markets that are price-sensitive but demand quality EV options.

BYD Seal 06 EV Launched with Premium Features at Half the Price of Tesla Model 3

The newly launched BYD Seal 06 EV comes equipped with several high-end features despite being an entry-level electric sedan. Key highlights include:

  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System)
  • Rotating Center Infotainment Display
  • Compact Driver Display Screen
  • Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Ambient Lighting
  • Aggressive Pricing Strategy

Despite its premium features, the Seal 06 has been launched in the Chinese market at a starting price of just 109,800 Chinese Yuan (approximately ₹13.06 lakh or $15,000 USD).

Tesla Model 3 Comparison

In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 RWD starts at 235,500 Chinese Yuan (around ₹28.02 lakh or $32,000 USD) in China. This means the Seal 06 is over 50% cheaper, despite offering competitive specifications.

Industry Impact

Due to this aggressive pricing, analysts believe the Seal 06 could intensify pressure on Tesla and other EV makers in the highly competitive Chinese market. In fact, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers had previously warned BYD in May after it slashed EV prices by up to 34%, fearing disruption across the industry.
