IIT Madras launches “AI for Educators” course for K–12 teachers on SWAYAM Plus

In a bid to equip school teachers across India with cutting-edge technological skills, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has introduced “AI for Educators,” a dedicated course tailored for kindergarten through Class 12 instructors.

Offered free of charge through the SWAYAM Plus platform, the new program builds on IIT-Madras’s successful AI For All initiative and is delivered in collaboration with the IIT-Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

Spanning 25 to 45 hours of online instruction, the “AI for Educators” curriculum blends theoretical concepts with hands-on projects. Participants will explore the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, machine learning techniques in Python, and practical applications relevant to classroom teaching. The course complements IIT Madras’s existing suite of specialized modules ranging from AI in Physics and Chemistry to Accounting Analytics and Cricket Analytics broadening educators’ capacity to integrate data-driven tools into diverse subjects such as arts, science, and commerce.

While auditing the course is free, teachers seeking formal recognition can opt for a proctored certification exam at designated centers for a nominal fee. Successful candidates will receive an official certificate from SWAYAM, validating their mastery of AI principles and pedagogical strategies.

By empowering K–12 educators with AI literacy, IIT Madras aims to foster an ecosystem where technology-driven learning enhances student engagement and future-ready skills. This initiative underscores the institute’s commitment to democratizing advanced education and supporting India’s digital transformation at the grassroots level.
