CBSE Releases Guidelines for 2025-26 Board Practicals; Exams Scheduled Between January 1 and February 14

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued detailed instructions for practical exams, project work, and internal assessments for Class 10 and 12 students for the academic session 2025-26. Schools have been asked to strictly adhere to the timelines and guidelines, as no changes to uploaded marks will be permitted once submitted.

The practical examination cycle is scheduled from January 1 to February 14, 2026, and all assessments must be completed within this period. CBSE emphasized that verification of maximum marks for each subject is mandatory before uploading to the board’s portal. Once uploaded, the marks will be final.

For students participating in national or international sports events, practical exam dates may be adjusted within the prescribed window, but no additional time beyond the board’s schedule will be granted.

Key Instructions for Class 10:

  • No external examiners will be appointed.

  • Schools are responsible for arranging practical answer books; the board will not supply them.

  • Answer books do not need to be sent to regional offices post-assessment.

Guidelines for Class 12:

  • Examiners must restrict questions to the prescribed practical syllabus, avoiding broad or general questions.

  • Projects reflecting genuine student effort and originality should be awarded higher marks, while routine or repeated projects will receive average marks.

  • Marks must be recorded separately for lab work, viva, project, and final practical, ensuring transparency and minimizing disputes.

CBSE has also made available the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and assessment guidelines on its official website to help schools comply with the new directives. The board reiterated that strict adherence is crucial this year due to the high volume of examinations and the multiple assessment cycles planned.

This announcement ensures uniformity in evaluation and provides clarity for students, parents, and schools across the country ahead of the 2025-26 board exams.
