CBSE Reopens Revaluation Portal Amid OSM Tender Scrutiny
Digital Desk
CBSE has reopened its revaluation portal until June 6 as the Education Ministry seeks a report on the OSM tender process and related allegations.
The CBSE revaluation portal for Class 12 students has resumed operations until June 6, even as questions over the board’s OSM tender process prompt scrutiny from the Education Ministry.
Portal Back Online
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reopened its verification and re-evaluation portal for Class 12 students after days of technical disruptions that affected thousands of candidates seeking access to post-result services.
The portal became operational again on Tuesday and will remain open until June 6, offering students another opportunity to apply for verification of marks, obtain photocopies of answer sheets, and seek re-evaluation where required.
The restoration comes against the backdrop of a growing controversy surrounding CBSE’s Online System Management (OSM) platform and the award of a digital evaluation contract to a Hyderabad-based technology firm.
Ministry Seeks Clarification
According to reports, the Ministry of Education has sought a detailed report from CBSE regarding the tender awarded to Coempt Edu Tech in December last year, shortly before the commencement of the board examination cycle.
The move follows allegations that irregularities may have occurred during the procurement process. While media reports have suggested that officials could face action if lapses are established, there has been no official confirmation from the ministry regarding any disciplinary measures.
CBSE has maintained that the tender was awarded in accordance with General Financial Rules (GFR) and established government procurement norms.
Rahul Gandhi Raises Questions
The issue gained political attention after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the board and the Education Ministry of favouring a particular vendor through the evaluation system.
His remarks intensified public debate around transparency in examination-related processes. However, the government has not formally responded to the specific allegations made by the Congress leader.
The controversy has also triggered protests by student and youth organisations, including demonstrations outside CBSE offices in the national capital.
Technical Problems Persisted
The evaluation and grievance portal has faced repeated disruptions since its launch on May 19.
Students reported difficulties accessing services on the very first day as heavy traffic reportedly caused the system to crash. Subsequent deadlines related to obtaining answer-sheet photocopies were extended more than once to accommodate affected candidates.
Reports indicate that technical experts from two IITs were consulted around May 25 to help stabilise the platform. On June 1, the portal reportedly remained inaccessible for much of the day before services were restored on June 2.
CBSE attributed the disruptions to technical issues and attempts at “unauthorised interference” that affected system stability. The board, however, has not publicly disclosed detailed evidence regarding those claims.
Whistleblower Allegations Surface
Concerns surrounding the OSM process have also been amplified by claims made by individuals described as whistleblowers.
One such case involves Ranchi-based student Sarthak Siddhant, who reportedly examined a large number of CBSE-related documents and raised questions regarding aspects of the tender process.
Separately, Delhi student Vedant Srivastava drew attention after expressing concerns over his Physics marks. Following access to his evaluated answer sheet, he claimed to have identified irregularities in the assessment process. CBSE has not publicly commented on the specifics of the matter.
Focus on Evaluation Vendor
The company at the centre of the controversy, Coempt Edu Tech, was previously known as Globarena Technologies Private Limited. The Hyderabad-based firm provides digital examination and evaluation services to several education boards across India.
Its work with state boards in Telangana, Karnataka and West Bengal has made it a significant player in the education technology sector. The company has, at different times, faced scrutiny related to evaluation systems, although outcomes of those concerns have varied from state to state.
Protests Likely to Intensify
Student organisations and political groups have indicated that protests over the issue could expand in the coming weeks. The Indian Youth Congress has announced plans for campaigns and demonstrations demanding greater accountability in examination management and evaluation systems.
For now, CBSE says its priority remains ensuring uninterrupted access to re-evaluation services and addressing student grievances. As the Education Ministry reviews the matter, attention is likely to remain focused on both the functioning of the portal and the questions raised over the OSM tender process.
