Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has taken a significant step towards enhancing student health and wellness with the inauguration of a new gym facility for male students, complementing the women’s gym opened earlier this year. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to fostering holistic development and promoting fitness on campus.
The new gym, equipped with modern workout machines, weight training equipment, and cardio devices, aims to encourage students to adopt a healthy lifestyle alongside their academic pursuits. University officials highlighted that physical fitness is not only essential for overall well-being but also positively impacts concentration, mental health, and academic performance.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Baljit Singh emphasized, “Our students’ physical and mental health is as important as their academic success. The gym facility is designed to provide a safe, inclusive space for male students to exercise, de-stress, and build resilience. Wellness is an integral part of education, and we are committed to creating an environment that supports this.”
The gym also includes provisions for personalized fitness plans, professional guidance, and group exercise sessions, ensuring students of all fitness levels can benefit. Additionally, nutrition awareness workshops will be conducted periodically, encouraging students to make informed lifestyle choices.
Earlier this year, PAU had launched a dedicated gym for female students, which witnessed a high turnout and positive feedback. The university administration noted that extending a similar facility for male students was a natural progression to ensure gender-inclusive health resources.
Student representatives welcomed the move, highlighting the importance of such facilities in reducing stress and improving physical stamina. “PAU’s initiative motivates us to prioritize our health while managing academic pressures. The new gym is a much-needed facility that will benefit all students,” said Rahul Mehta, a final-year undergraduate student.
The university also plans to integrate fitness and wellness programs into the campus curriculum, promoting long-term lifestyle habits among students. This initiative is part of PAU’s broader vision to foster an environment where academic excellence and personal well-being go hand in hand.
With this development, PAU continues to position itself as a progressive institution that values both intellectual and physical growth, setting an example for other universities in the region.
