How the ranking actually works
NIRF evaluates management institutes across five parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception. Participation is voluntary — institutes must pre-register and submit their own data, meaning not every eligible college is necessarily included even if it might otherwise rank well.
What matters for admission
Getting into any of these institutes typically requires clearing a competitive entrance exam — CAT, XAT, or MAT are the most common — followed by a Written Ability Test and Personal Interview round. Selection also weighs academic record, and sometimes work experience, alongside the entrance score.
A caution on "2026" rankings you may see online
Several websites are currently publishing lists labelled "NIRF MBA Ranking 2026" with specific scores and rank changes — but these claims are inconsistent with each other, and at least one dated source as recently as April 2026 confirms the new edition hadn't been released yet at that point. Until the Ministry of Education officially publishes the next edition, treat any "2026" rankings circulating online with caution and rely on the confirmed 2025 list above.
